Virtually every unborn baby in the United States is repeatedly exposed to ultrasound imaging, despite the proven fact that ultrasound can damage or destroy fetal brain tissue, according to a new book written by a physician for expectant parents. Ultrasound and Autism: What Every Pregnant Woman Should Know presents a preponderance of scientific evidence proving that needless and excessive use of prenatal ultrasound, without adequate safety controls, is the cause of the autism epidemic.
This public health crisis now affects 1 in 50 U.S. children, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is flooding our schools; the number of autistic students age 6-21 enrolled in a government special education program increased from 5,415 in 1991 to 443,562 in 2013, according to U.S. Department of Education statistics. The CDC reported prevalence of ASD in the U.S. increased from 1 in 150 in 2000 to 1 in 50 in 2014. This book demonstrates ASD has been increasing for 24 years in perfect synchrony with the increasingly frequent use of prenatal ultrasound at higher and higher intensities. The "parallel rise of ultrasound and autism," as scientists call it, indicates the cause of the epidemic is the use of ultrasound imaging in pregnancy, according to Dr. Rabin.
"Genetic flaws by nature do not become epidemic," he states. "The 'autism epidemic' is largely the result of a change in the environment of the unborn child. The term ASD is a misnomer. We are seeing the behavioral manifestation of brain injury inflicted by ultrasound. This is not a genetic disease; it is a manmade epidemic."
In this very readable scientific book, Dr. Rabin dispels the illusion of safety surrounding the practice of prenatal ultrasound. Promoted as a "harmless" form of energy, ultrasound is used at dangerous levels of intensity in hospitals, doctors' offices, and commercial imaging enterprises, he reveals. Citing impeccable scientific sources, he demonstrates that safety has lagged behind rapid advances in ultrasound technology, and serious lapses inevitably occur. The fetal brain is extremely vulnerable to heating and other effects of ultrasound, and exposure of the face and cranium to ultrasound endangers the prefrontal cortex, the region of the brain where our essentially human qualities reside. The epidemic increase of ASD results from "errors in brain development caused by ultrasound imaging," states Dr. Rabin.
The book exposes the fallacy of safety assurances given to expectant parents. The ultrasound physicists cited in this book charge that the safety features of obstetric ultrasound equipment do not enable the operator to minimize exposure in accordance with official safety guidelines. The book also shows there is no scientific foundation for the claim that prenatal ultrasound is safe for the fetus; all studies relied upon as evidence of safety have been invalidated by today's scientists.
For the first time, this book correctly answers the question, "Is ultrasound safe for my baby?" Dr. Rabin warns that under current clinical conditions, no sonogram can be performed without risk. He emphasizes the official statement of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM): "The use of ultrasound without a medical indication to view the fetus, obtain images of the fetus or determine the fetal gender is inappropriate and contrary to responsible medical practice." The book conveys the warnings of International ultrasound safety organizations and the FDA, all opposed to the nonmedical use of prenatal ultrasound.
"We cannot entrust the well being of future generations to ultrasound, with its known risks. The upward trend of ultrasound and autism can be reversed by following the AIUM recommendation," Dr. Rabin concludes.
